The story

Tam returned to his hometown after 20 years working as a chef’s in different restaurants in Paris. He was born in the fertile Mekong Delta where he spent most of his early year with his sister and grandfather. Even in his childhood, he has a clear path for his career and his dream was to open his own restaurant. Le Reminiscene restaurant is the result of those years of hard work overseas. The restaurant culinary concept is inspired by earthly Southern peasant meals with a touch French cooking.

Naming, logo and brand graphic element

Shortly after Tam shared with his story, we came up with the name ‘La Reminiscence’. Reminiscene means an act of remembering events and experiences in the past. What better way to sit back and relax with your family, having dinner, harkening back the good old days.

We stayed away from the conventional idea of using scriptive typography logo. Instead, we created a simple and elegant mark that embodies and infuses the brand attributes. Fengshui is also taken into account in the branding development process. Square is the element of earth and wind. It is beneficial for adding the energy that benefits the relationship of the family.

The ligature in ’La’ and letter ’e’ is a subtle touch to remind us to remember the past; to reminisce who we are, where what shaped the person we are today. This is considered one of the most important moral value that one should value in Vietnam Southern culture.

The wordmark ‘La Reminiscene’ is used as negative space, revealing the background, the textures underneath as if it has stories to tell.

From the brand the attributes, xolve develop a set of watercolour hand draw elements inspired by the distinctive tropical plants and trees in the Mekong Delta.

We kept the design of all applications simple. Monochromatic colour elements, monospace typography with the hope to achieve the nostalgic reminiscence of the bygone era.
